2nd Annual FALEO – SD 5K/10K Fun Run

July 21, 2014 By Teo Millan

On Saturday, October 25th, FALEO-SD held its 2nd annual 5K/10K Fun Run.  The purpose of the event was to raise funds for Karangalan Magkaisa (KM), a high school scholarship organization.  KM had its funding cut recently.  FALEO-SD stepped in to help KM.

Numerous runners/walkers registered for the event.  Prizes were awarded to the top male and female finishers in both the 5K and 10K.  Every participant received a finisher’s medal.  Afterwards, Filipino foods such as adobo, pancit, and lumpia were served.  The talented, Katriz Trinidad (back from her appearance on The Voice), entertained the crowd.  Music was provided by Andre Garcia.

The San Diego Police Department had a recruiting booth.  The National City Police Department SWAT vehicle was on display along with some of their arsenal.

The event was sponsored by FALEO-LA, PANPAC, and the Pangasinan Association.  Reynila Magbuhat-Calderon and approximately 10 high school students volunteered during the event.

Thank you to all the sponsors, participants and volunteers for coming together to make this a successful event!

Battle of the Badges XI: member Mandel Estepa victorious

June 18, 2014 By Teo Millan

On Saturday, June 14, 2014 the Battle of the Badges XI was held at the Four Points Sheraton Hotel.  Boxers from local fire/police departments, Border Patrol, Department of Corrections, Probation, Navy and Marines came together to represent their departments and test their mettle against each other in the ring.

FALEO member Mandel “Code 8” Estepa (5’8, 165 pounds) was pitted against Darryl “The Doctor” Roberts (5’11, 169 pounds) from CV Fire.  As the bell rang, each boxer took only a moment to size each other up before the fight was at full speed.  Both traded punches amid the cheers from TEAM ESTEPA.  There was non-stop action from beginning to end.  Estepa won rounds 1 and 3 to take the match by decision.

The event helped raise money to support local boxing programs for the youth.

Congratulations Mandel!!

December 30, 2013 By Teo Millan

FALEO received a request from Southwestern College’s Student Veteran Organization (SVO) for assistance in helping at the holiday party at the California Veterans Home of Chula Vista.  1st VP Al Ambito worked diligently to gather volunteers for the event.

California Veterans Home of Chula Vista is the largest nursing  home for our nation’s elderly Veterans with nearly 169 residents. On December 12th, the Veterans Home holds their annual holiday party.  The party is their biggest of the year and one that residents and their guests look forward to every year.   Volunteers were needed for the entire day.

Al was able to gather a group of volunteers from FALEO and PANPAC, which also included family and friends, to help at the party.  FALEO helped make a difference in the lives of our veterans who served and sacrificed for this great country.  Well done everyone!!
